# Visibility quickstart

> Verify the data foundation, investigate one pattern, and turn the evidence into a concrete next action.

By the end of this guide, you will:

* confirm that Visibility is receiving current data,
* understand the organization-wide adoption baseline,
* investigate one tool, department, or person,
* identify an action worth taking, and
* know which part of Visibility to use next.

This guide uses one investigation from start to finish. It is intended for a
workspace administrator or operator with access to organization-wide Visibility
data.

## 1. Confirm the data is current

Open **Visibility → Collect** and review the integrations and deployed devices
available to your workspace. Check the latest successful sync or device
heartbeat before interpreting adoption or spend.

<Warning>
  A partial rollout can produce accurate evidence for the covered population
  without representing the whole company. Check coverage before generalizing
  from the results.
</Warning>

If a source is stale or a device is unhealthy, start with
[Manage collection](/docs/visibility/manage-collection).

## 2. Establish the baseline

Open **Visibility → Overview** and choose a time range that represents normal
work. Review:

* active people and adoption distribution,
* changes from the previous period,
* the tools and departments contributing the most activity, and
* any visible spend or governance signals.

The baseline tells you where to investigate. It is not, by itself, a conclusion
about productivity or value.

## 3. Follow one signal

Choose one material signal, such as a department with declining adoption, a
rapidly growing tool, or a concentration of personal accounts.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the relevant detail">
    Move from the overview into the department, tool, or person behind the
    signal. Keep the same time range so the views remain comparable.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the contributing evidence">
    Review account type, activity, workflows, spend, and source coverage where
    available. Compare more than one measure before assigning a cause.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check scope">
    Confirm that your role and workspace access include the population you
    intend to reason about. Scoped views should not be treated as company-wide
    totals.
  </Step>
</Steps>

For a guided investigation, continue with
[Investigate adoption](/docs/visibility/investigate-adoption) or
[Inspect the organization](/docs/visibility/inspect-organization).

## 4. Choose the next action

Use the evidence to select a specific operational response:

| Signal                                        | Next step                                                        |
| --------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Personal or duplicated subscriptions | [Find shadow AI](/docs/visibility/find-shadow-ai) |
| Idle or mismatched paid seats | [Act on spend](/docs/visibility/action-spend) |
| An unfamiliar or unapproved tool | [Govern discovered tools](/docs/visibility/govern-discovered-tools) |
| A conversation or coding session needs review | [Review captured activity](/docs/visibility/review-captured-activity) |
| A source is missing or stale                  | [Manage collection](/docs/visibility/manage-collection)               |

Visibility provides the evidence and the available Oximy workflow. Contract,
procurement, identity-provider, or endpoint changes may still be completed in
the system that owns them.
