# Find shadow AI

> Identify personally adopted AI tools, accounts, activity, and estimated spend.

Use **Spend → Shadow Spend** to investigate AI subscriptions and accounts that
sit outside the company's official purchasing and account structure.

    Review the snapshot timestamp before interpreting the result.

  <Step title="Choose a period">
    Select **30d** or **MTD**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find a tool">
    Search or filter the tool list to narrow the investigation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the tool">
    Select a tool row to inspect personal accounts, attributed owners, plan
    tiers, activity, and estimated shadow cost.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Compare risk evidence">
    Open **Governance → Tool Review** when the decision also depends on security,
    certification, approval, warning, or blocking status.
  </Step>

<Warning>
  Shadow-spend evidence does not itself approve or block a tool. Use it to
  establish ownership and cost, then follow the company's review and
  procurement process.
